Before distance learning and elearning, students in rural
school districts were often at a great disadvantage when it
came to subjects being offered. A small school district
sometimes didn’t have the resources to attract teachers
that were in high demand.

If you have the self-determination and drive to listen well and study harder then you can learn in a live university or an online school. But some people seem better suited than others for distance learning programs. Researchers have found that one of the factors that contributes to an effective distance learner in addition to the ability to work hard is their personality type.

For many young Americans the possibility of getting a higher education is really not a feasible option. They may not have the family resources to pay for the costs, they may not have the marks or academic ability to get a scholarship, or they just might live in a rural or remote area that is simply not close enough for them to attend and afford to go to college.

In order to learn at home in a distance learning program we first must learn to avoid the distractions. They are the things that will keep us focused and motivated on learning and studying and if we don’t find a way to avoid or eliminate them we can find ourselves not accomplishing what we set out to do.

In today’s job market, a bachelor’s degree often isn’t enough to give you the edge over other job applicants. However, getting your MBA at a local college or university may be just too much for a full-time breadwinner with a home and family to care for. There are still ways to advance your education, though, and one of the most popular is getting your MBA through distance learning.

Distance learning students seem to enjoy the best of everything. They get their education without actually needing to attend classes, and at the same time are able to keep their jobs and get a paycheck. In fact, this is one of the more prominent distance learning benefits that attract many students to make this their choice of education. In addition to that, distance learning students also gain the advantage of flexibility where they are able to study at their own pace without adhering to class schedules.

Distance learning and elearning are usually linked with furthering an education. The technology of distance learning, along with the pportunities provided by elearning and online courses, are making it easier for thousands of people to learn something new.

When I was approached to write a piece on open and distance learning education, I came up with this piece. After reading it through, I have come to the conclusion that my life has changed completely because of it. I didn’t realise how much until I wrote about it, and got half way through proof reading it. This is what I wrote:

Distance learning can be defined in many different ways. Distance learning can be classes taken over the Internet, Web TV, cable TV, correspondence course, audio conferencing, CD-ROM, videotape or any other mechanism that allows a student to learn without traveling to a traditional classroom. These programs were first developed to assist people in remote or rural areas have access to the same education as people living in the major centers.
